The Statue of Phraya Surin Phakdi Srinarong
Chang Wang (Chiang Pum) was erected
in 1984 to commemorate the establishment of
Surin Province by him. The monument is situated
at the southern entrance to Muang Surin at
the starting point of Surin-Prasat road.

Elephant Village, Ban Ta Klang is
locate some 62 kms. form north of
town. This ancient Kui village has
raised elephants for hundreds of
years. In the old days, Pachi, the head
of mahouts, led a number of fellow
mahouts to catch wild elephants in
border of Thai-Cambodia.

หมู่บ้านทอผ้าไหมสุรินทร์
จังหวัดสุรินทร์มีหมู่บ้านที่มีชื่อ
เสียงในด้านการทอผ้าไหม
โดยเฉพาะผ้าไหมลายพื้นเมือง
สามารถชมและเลือกซื้อได้ทุก
ที่ เช่น บ้านสวาย บ้านเทนมีย์
บ้านจันรม อ.เมืองสุรินทร์,
บ้านเขวาสินรินทร์ บ้านนาโพธิ์
อ.เขวาสินรินทร์, บ้านอู่โลก อ.ลำดวน และที่สำคัญจังหวัดสุรินทร์
ได้รับคัดเลือกให้เป็นผู้ทอผ้าไหมยกทองโบราณ โดยสถานที่ทอคือ
บ้านท่าสว่าง อำเภอเมืองสุรินทร์ ห่างจากตัวเมืองสุรินทร์ ประมาณ
10 กิโลเมตร เปิดให้นักท่องเที่ยวไปชมได้ทุกวัน
Silk Weaving Village, Surin is famous for its elaborate hand woven silk. The
ancient silk patterns for example attern “Whole” and pattern “Amprom” are
different from others with colors, thread, dyeing techniques, and weaving styles.
Major weaving villages are Sawai village, Tenmee village, Chan-rom village in
Muang District; Khwao Sinarin village, Napho village in Khwao Sinarin District,
Au-lok village in Lamduan District. Surin Province is selected to make “an ancient
brocade silk” to present it to APEC leaders as a gift from Thailand in October
2003. This special pattern of silk is woven in Thasawang village, Muang District
10 kms. from downtown Surin. Tourists can visit there everyday.
